Gdansk in November is cold and often grey, but that suits its reconstructed old town, where tall merchant houses in amber, cream and rust line the Long Market. The Baltic wind comes off the river Motława, so you'll want to duck into milk bars and cellar restaurants for pierogi and sour rye soup. Amber shops cluster along Mariacka Street, and the vast brick Gothic churches reward a slow wander.
