Sharm El Sheikh sits on the Sinai Peninsula, where the Red Sea stays warm and clear enough for diving even in January. The main draw is underwater: coral reefs and the marine life of Ras Mohammed National Park are close to shore. On land, it's a purpose-built resort town, so expect hotels and promenades rather than old streets, with the desert mountains forming a dry backdrop just inland.
